Polish tennis player advances to French Open finals

Polish teenager Iga Świątek made it to her first Grand Slam final of the French Open tennis tournament, at Roland Garros in Paris on Thursday, by defeating Nadia Podorska of Argentina.

The 19-year-old Pole won 6-2 and 6-1 in the tournament to take her place in the finals.

In the finals on Saturday, Świątek will face Sofia Kenin of the US, the WTA World No. 4 and the winner of this year's Australian Open, who has defeated Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, the WTA World No. 7., 6-4, 7-5.

Polish President Andrzej Duda expressed on Twitter his congratulations to Świątek on her promotion.

"Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! Iga Świątek has defeated Argentinian tennis player Nadia Podoroska 6-2, 6-1 and advanced to the French Open finals. Ms Iga! We are keeping our fingers crossed for your success in the finals! Thank you for the beautiful way you represent Poland!" the president tweeted.
