Polish swimmers to mark Poland's independence centenary
Two Polish female swimmers want to mark Poland's independence centenary by swimming across the Catalina Canal between Los Angeles and Santa Catalina Island, a distance of at least 34 km.
Aleksandra Bednarek from Łódź, central Poland, and Hanna Bakuniak from Szczecin, northwestern Poland, will be the first Polish women to take up the challenge. They are both champion swimmers.
We organised this undertaking under the slogan "The Polish Expedition of the Century" on the occasion of Poland's independence centenary," Bednarek told PAP.
The attempt to swim across the Catalina Canal on the west coast of the United States will take off on August 27.
