Polish swimmer wins gold in Abu Dhabi

Radosław Kawęcki has won gold in the men's 200m backstroke final and Katarzyna Wasick has won bronze in the women's 50m freestyle during the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

Kawęcki won gold on Tuesday, having clocked 1:48.68. This is his fourth victory at such a significant sports event.

Shaine Casas of the US came second (1:48.81), and Christian Diener of Germany was third (1:48.97).

Wasick won bronze, having clocked 23.40. Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden won gold (23.08), and Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands was second (23.31).

Kawęcki's gold and Wasick's bronze are the first medals won by Poland in Abu Dhabi.
