Political, economic and military cooperation lay in the foreground of Wednesday's talks between FM Zbigniew Rau and Poland-visiting Saudi Arabian FM His Highness Prince Fajsal Bin Farhan Al Saud. The ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East.

Rau told a press briefing after the talks that this year marked 25 years of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Poland.

Rau said Polish-Saudi ties were regulated by a Polish-Saudi Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, and called the body an "excellent tool." He added there was hope that the commission's fourth sitting could take place still this year.

Rau stated that Saudi Arabia has been Poland's main Middle East trade partner over the past decade, with bilateral turnover in 2019 reaching over a record USD 2.7 billion.

Rau and Al Saud also discussed security issues and the Middle East situation. Rau also voiced Poland's appreciation of Saudi Arabia's openness to Poland's participation in the work of the G20 group.

The Saudi Arabian FM called his talks with Rau "fruitful" and said his visit to Poland reflected the wish of both countries to expand their ties "in various spheres."
