Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Twitter on Monday that he was closely watching the situation after Belarus's presidential elections and would react appropriately as it develops.

Following the contested re-election of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, anti-government protests erupted in several cities in Belarus and were violently broken up by police.

"I spoke with the Polish Ambassador to Belarus, Artur Michalski; I received a report on the current situation in this country; we are monitoring matters on an ongoing basis and we will respond adequately to events and circumstances," Duda tweeted.
