Polish president condemns attack on Kabul airport

The Polish president has condemned the suicide bomb attack on Kabul airport on Thursday that left scores of people dead and injured.

The attack came just hours after Poland had called an end to its evacuation of Polish citizens and Afghans linked to Polish operations in Afghanistan.

"In the harshest words, I condemn the heinous attacks on the airport in Kabul on Thursday which caused dozens of casualties, including US soldiers, our allies," wrote the president. "My prayers go out to the families and to those people affected by this act of cowardice. Poland supports our friends from the US and Afghanistan."

The attack, carried out by Islamic State terrorists, claimed the lives of 12 US soldiers and left 15 injured.

The number of Afghan deaths in the attack is not yet known. According to the Wall Street Journal, at least 60 people were killed and 140 were injured.
