Polish PM against sanctions hitting Belarusian people - source

Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki told a videoconference of EU heads of state and government on Belarus that Poland was for sanctions on those involved in suppressing protests in Belarus but against measures hitting Belarusians, PAP was told by an unofficial source.

According to the source, the Polish prime minister came out against sanctions which would hit the Belarusian people and aggravate the crisis.

The videoconference started after noon on Wednesday.

The source told PAP that PM Morawiecki also pointed to the dependence of the Belarusian economy on Russia, especially in the field of raw materials and energy.

Morawiecki underlined that "if the EU wants Belarusians to have a choice, it must give Belarusian society a real offer of economic cooperation."
