Polish parliament speaker discusses security issues in Washington
Security issues dominated Sejm (lower house) Speaker Elzbieta Witek's talks in the US Congress on Tuesday. Also taking part was Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, who said that the US was doing everything to ensure the security of Europe.
"Security issues were the most important issues discussed, which we spoke about in the context of sanctions against Russia and what is happening behind the eastern border, that the conflict in Ukraine and its dangers have not yet been resolved," Witek told reporters after the meeting on Capitol Hill.
She added that the topic of discussion also included cooperation in areas of security, including the presence of American troops in Poland. Parliamentarians from Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia also participated in the talks in Congress and said that they would like US troops to be present in their countries.
On Wednesday, Witek was scheduled to participate in a panel discussion at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank in Washington, leaving for New York in the afternoon.
