Polish lower house starts inaugural meeting

The Sejm (lower house of parliament) on Tuesday started its inaugural meeting following the October 13 general election won by the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party.

The inaugural meeting was opened by Senior Speaker, former Defence Minister Antoni Macierewicz.

The sitting is being attended by President Andrzej Duda, who will address the Chamber and PM Mateusz Morawiecki who will tender the resignation of his cabinet. In accordance with the Polish Constitution, a PM resigns during the first sitting of a new Sejm.

During the first part of the sitting the 460 newly elected MPs will take an oath.

During the second part of the sitting the Chamber will elect the new speaker of the Sejm and deputy speakers.
