Polish-Lithuanian defence council to convene in early 2020

The first meeting of the Polish-Lithuanian Defence Ministers' Council will take place at the beginning of 2020, Lithuania's Defence Ministry announced after a meeting of both countries' defence ministers in Vilnius on Friday.

Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak and his Lithuanian counterpart Raimundas Karoblis met on the sidelines of a ceremonial burial of the remains of insurgents who took part in the Polish 1863 January Uprising against Russia.

The setting up of a joint Council has been specified in a declaration that the Polish and Lithuanian presidents signed in February. According to the document, the Council is to meet at least once a year to discuss defence issues.
