Polish Grandmaster defeats reigning world speed chess champion

Jan-Krzysztof Duda (22) from Wieliczka in southern Poland on Wednesday defeated Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen in the seventh round of the prestigious Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge online speed chess tournament.

On the day, the Pole obtained 2.5 points from four games and was promoted to 9th place in the table of the top 12 leading players in the world.

This was Duda's first win over Carlsen in his career. His victory took place on the 'Polish Day' of the Lindores Abbey Rapid Challenge, the second edition of the Magnus Carlsen Invitational series.

President Andrzej Duda congratulated the chess player in a Twitter post by writing "I am delighted to join in your success Mr. Jan Krzysztof! Also being a Duda, makes me even more proud."
