Polish gov't considers closing bars, restaurants - minister

The Polish government is debating whether to shut down all bars and restaurants due to the spreading coronavirus, and the decision on the matter will be made later on Friday, Development Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz told the gazeta.pl news website.

"All meeting places where crowds gathers, where we are close to one another, are where the virus spreads today. I'm aware that a discussion on closing down bars and restaurants is also taking place. (...) We're in contact with the catering industry," Emilewicz told gazeta.pl.

Earlier on Friday, Emilewicz said that the government will also be discussing whether to close down shopping centres.

The minister denied rumours that Poland was planning to cordon off certain cities.
