Polish film director Malgorzata Szumowska's first English language feature The Other Lamb will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.

Szumowska's film will be shown in Toronto as part of the special screenings programme of the city's international film festival. New films from Pedro Almodovar, Steven Soderbergh and Atom Egoyan are some of the other productions to be screened at this year's festival.

The Other Lamb tells the story of a young female cult member named Selah (Raffey Cassidy). The group is run by Shepherd (Michiel Huisman). After a mystical ritual Selah begins to question the teachings of the cult's leader.

Szumowska's film, with a screenplay by renowned Australian screenwriter Catherine S. McMullen, was made as an Irish-Belgian co-production. The director's previous films include 33 Scenes from Life (2008) and the Berlin Film Festival-awarded feature film Body (2015).

The TIFF will also include a special screening of Czech director Vaclav Marhoul's adaptation of Polish writer Jerzy Kosinski's infamous Holocaust novel The Painted Bird.

This year's Toronto International Film Festival will run from September 5 to 15.
