Polish expats send EUR 911 million back home in Q2, 2019
Polish people living abroad transferred PLN 3.9 billion (EUR 911 million) to their home country in the second quarter of 2019, the National Bank of Poland (NBP) reported on Thursday.
The figure was PLN 0.1 bln (EUR 23 mln) higher year on year and PLN 0.3 bln (EUR 70 mln) bigger quarter on quarter.
Short-term migrants transferred PLN 1 bln (EUR 230 mln) to their home country in the second quarter of 2019 and long-term migrants sent back PLN 2.7 bln (EUR 630 mln), the central bank said.
The annual increase in total transfers was due to the inflow of money from the Netherlands, Norway and Germany, while transfers from the United Kingdom diminished.
Poles working in Germany sent PLN 1.4 bln (EUR 330 mln) to their home country in the reported period and those residing in the UK transferred PLN 0.6 bln (EUR 140 mln). The two countries were responsible for 52.0 percent of total transfers.
