The Łódź Special Economic Zone has been named 3rd among the best economic zones in the world and 1st in Europe in a ranking prepared by fDi Magazine (Financial Times group).

Marek Michalik, Łódź Special Economic Zone CEO, said on Thursday that for the past several years, the Łódź zone has been one of a few that has managed to remain among world's top ten zones.

He attributed the latest top position to record-high investments in 2019 as well as to continuous expansion of the zone's offer.

In 2019, the zone saw the start of 34 new investment projects worth a total of over PLN 2 billion (EUR 440 million). The list of investors includes Johnson Matthey Batteries Poland, Nippon Seiki Poland and Corning Optical Fiber. The new investments generated almost 800 jobs, said Michalik.

Michalik said that the Łódź zone has also been named by fDi Magazine the world's best zone for small and medium-sized enterprises, which account for some 60 percent of all investors in the zone.
