The Polish doctors will fly to Chicago on Wednesday as part of the medical mission to help the US fight the coronavirus, Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said on Tuesday.

The minister noted that medical missions would continue as doctors, apart from helping, acquire the knowledge necessary to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.

"This expert knowledge is extremely important to us," Błaszczak added.

Sending Polish medics on the mission to the United States was one of the topics of Saturday's talks between Polish and US presidents Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump.

Earlier, Duda's aide Krzysztof Szczerski said that the medics are to support the local health service and also assist in the treatment of patients infected with the coronavirus.
