The Polish defence minister said on Tuesday that thousands of Polish troops are on standby to help with the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Referring to the government’s plans to vaccinate Poles in a nationwide campaign, Minister Mariusz Blaszczak told a public radio station that the Polish army is ready to tackle new challenges.

He reported that around 10,000 soldiers are already involved in the fight against the coronavirus every day, while another 10,000 are on standby. "The Polish Army is ready to support institutions established for the vaccination process," the minister said.

On Friday, Michal Dworczyk, the head of the Prime Minister's Office, told a press conference that 40,000-50,000 medical staff will be involved in the vaccination campaign, with at least one vaccination point to be located in every Polish municipality.
