Polish ambassador to Iraq repatriated - Foreign Ministry
The Polish ambassador to Iraq, Beata Peksa, has returned to Poland and the reason behind the decision was to ensure the safety of the Polish envoy, the Foreign Ministry told PAP on Wednesday.
The Foreign Ministry said it was not an evacuation of the embassy and the operation was only aimed to ensure Peksa was safe.
Poland has been in close cooperation with Great Britain on the case, the Foreign Ministry added.
In the early hours on Wednesday, Iran carried out ballistic missile attacks on two air bases housing US forces in Iraq, launching over a dozen missiles, Arabic al-Mayadeen television has said.
There were no casualties among Polish troops stationed in Iraq, the Polish defence minister reported later on.
