Police have arrested 14 members of a gang of thieves who preyed on passengers travelling on long-distance trains, the Central Police Investigation Bureau (CBSP) said on Monday.

Among those arrested are several railway employees, including three train conductors, and two security guards. According to the CBSP, the gang specialised in robbing Ukrainians.

A CBSP spokesperson told PAP that seven people connected with the gang had been arrested last year, at the time police also secured equipment used for the robberies.

The bureau added that the gang mainly operated in south, southwest, west, north and central Poland in 2020 and 2021. If convicted, the train thieves may face up to eight years in prison.
