Poles to receive full compensation for retail electricity price hikes - MinEnergy

Poland will compensate all households for 100 percent of any electricity price increases, Minister of Energy Krzysztof Tchorzewski said Tuesday.

Earlier, Minister Tchorzewski suggested that only lower income households would be eligible for full compensation but today he assured that all households will be covered with the compensation to avoid administrative costs.

According to the minister, the government wants to compensate for electricity price hikes which it sees as "unjust" as they do not result from external conditions, such as higher coal prices, but solely are an effect of the rise of CO2 emission costs.

"According to estimates which I am familiar with, 2019 fuel prices in the Polish power system have a minor impact on the rise of energy prices," said Tchórzewski.
