Poland's Swiatek climbs to No. 17 in WTA ranking

Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek advanced to world No. 17 in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranking after she won the French Open tournament and claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros in Paris on Saturday.

The 19-year-old went into the tournament ranked world No. 54 by the WTA and became the first Pole ever to win the Grand Slam singles trophy of the French Open tennis tournament by defeating Sofia Kenin of the US, 6-4 and 6-1 in the women's singles championship match.

Swiatek's rival, Kenin, is the WTA World No. 4 and the winner of this year's Australian Open, defeating Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, the WTA World No. 7., 6-4, 7-5.
