The number of Poland's unemployed has so far increased by 30,000 in April, Labour Minister Marlena Maląg has told public TV broadcaster TVP Info.

"In April, the data (on the unemployed) is 30,000 persons more against the previous month," Maląg said.

She added that these figures do not yet illustrate what will happen on the market when the pandemic ends.

According to Maląg, the instruments included in the government's anti-crisis package, are primarily designed "to save jobs and help entrepreneurs to protect them." She added that by Tuesday evening, entrepreneurs had filed 1.6 million applications for aid under the package, so "maybe even 1.5 million jobs have been saved so far" thanks to these instruments.

The country's Central Statistical Office GUS is expected to announce the March unemployment figures on Friday, April 24, while the total April reading will be known after May 20.
