Poland's economy contracts by 0.2 percent in Q1 2023 - stats office

Poland's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) decreased by 0.2 percent year on year in the first quarter of 2023, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Tuesday.

Compared to the previous quarter, the economy grew by 3.9 percent, GUS said in a flash estimate.

Poland's economy expanded by 2.3 percent year on year in the fourth quarter of 2022, after a 3.6-percent growth in the third quarter.

Economists polled by PAP expected the GDP to fall by 0.9 percent year on year in January-March 2023.

GUS will report final first quarter GDP growth data on May 31.
