Poland wants EC inquiry into Russian gas tariffs

Poland wants the EC to launch inquiries into tariff manipulations by Russian natural gas giant Gazprom, a Polish diplomatic source in Brussels told reporters on Monday.

Gazprom's tariffs for the EU countries are to be on the agenda of a late-October EU summit in Brussels, as most EU members are concerned about the company's recent drastic gas price hikes.

The source said that the rising gas tariffs were the effect of Gazprom's cuts in gas supplies to some EU countries.

"Gas prices, and in effect also energy costs, have soared drastically over the past months. Most EU members have expressed concern over this state of affairs. Several countries have moved for a special debate at the October-scheduled summit, and this debate will take place," the source said.
