Poland to offer extra pensions despite pandemic
Some 9.1 million retirees will receive an additional, 14th monthly pension payment this year under a bill signed into law by President Andrzej Duda on Monday.
The bonus pension payment of PLN 1,250 (EUR 270) before taxes, to be paid out in November, will be granted to 7.1 million pensioners.
A lower bonus will be paid out to 1.2 million retirees with higher regular pensions, exceeding PLN 2,900 (EUR 630) a month. Some 500,000 better off retirees will get no bonus at all.
The cost of the extra pension payments, covered by the state budget, is to reach PLN 11.4 billion (EUR 2.48 billion). As Poland boosts spending during the pandemic, the state badget is to carry a deficit of PLN 82.3 billion in 2021.
In April, retirees are to receive a 13th bonus pension payment. In this case the bonus will be equal for all pensioners.
