Poland takes first step in 5G
Poland's Digital Affairs Ministry, the Polish Development Fund (PFR) and domestic telecom operators signed an agreement on Monday that marks the onset of creating the country's 5G mobile communications network.
The signatories, which include operators Exatel, Orange Polska, T-Mobile Polska and Polkomtel, "with participation" of Play, agreed to start work on setting up the Polskie 5G (Polish 5G) company, PFR head Paweł Borys said on Twitter.
The PFR group will act as an adviser but may also consider financial involvement, Borys tweeted.
5G is the latest, rapidly developing telecommunications standard. It is expected to increase data transmission speeds to 50-100 times faster than the current 4G network. The new technology is expected to speed up development of the Internet of Things, telemedicine innovations, autonomous vehicles and intelligent cities.
