The leak was detected on Tuesday in Poland's Kujawsko-Pomorskie province, some 70 kilometres from the central city of Plock.

PERN said on Wednesday evening that initial findings showed "no signs of interference by third parties."

On Thursday, the company's technical services had already started repairing the damaged section of the pipeline carrying crude oil to German customers.

"The aim is... to resume pumping oil to Germany at "full levels" as quickly as possible," PERN said in a statement.
