Three cases the Brazilian Covid-19 variant have been detected in Poland's southern region of Silesia, the health minister said on Thursday afternoon.

The highly infectious strain fuelled a devastating surge in Brazil last month.

"We have detected three cases of the Brazilian variant. These cases are in Silesia," Adam Niedzielski told a press conference on Thursday.

New infections in Poland are now dominated by the British mutation of the virus, which is more infectious than the original variant. The British strain started spreading in the country from the beginning of this year.
