Poland seeks pan-European cooperation in fighting VAT fraud

Polish Finance Minister Tadeusz Kościński has invited his EU peers to come to Warsaw to discuss a declaration on joint fight against VAT fraud, Kościński's deputy Jan Sarnowski has told PAP.
Sarnowski said that the European Commission, the EU's executive arm, has noted the problem of sluggish exchange of information between the member states' tax administrations, including on VAT fraud.
"We're already a European leader in terms of advanced analytic tools," Sarnowski said, adding that the delayed exchange of information with other EU members was a major problem for Poland.
He added that VAT fraud affects the entire EU, with EUR 40-60 bln being lost every year in uncollected VAT payments.
