The first confirmed case of coronavirus has been found in Poland.

The infected patient comes from the Lubuskie province in western Poland and is currently in hospital in Zielona Góra.

Health minister Łukasz Szumowski said the man had recently arrived in Poland from Germany, and people who had contact with him including his family have been put into domestic quarantine.

He added that the patient, who is not from a high risk group, reported to the doctor himself and received information by phone to contact the sanitary services.

The patient is reported to be feeling well.

The new virus, first detected in China, has infected more than 90,000 people globally and caused over 3,000 deaths.

The World Health Organization has named the illness COVID-19, referring to its origin late last year and the coronavirus that causes it.
