Poland believes in strength of US democracy says President

President Andrzej Duda has said “Poland believes in the strength of American democracy” after the United Sates was rocked by the storming of the country’s Capitol building by supporters of Donald Trump on Wednesday.

The rioting in Washington, which interrupted Congress's confirmation of President-elect Joe Biden's win in the November 3 election, claimed the lives of four people, and caused shock and outrage around the world.

"The events in Washington are an internal affair of the United States, which is a democratic and law abiding country," President Duda tweeted early on Thursday morning. "Government is subject to the will of the voters, and state and public security are monitored by appropriately appointed services. Poland believes in the strength of American democracy."

Government spokesperson Piotr Muller said on Wednesday that he was sure the US will be able to handle the situation.

"The United States is a mature democracy with mature state mechanisms," Muller said on radio. "I am sure they will be able to handle the present internal situation. Violence is never a solution."
