PM thanks US President for his words on Poland’s defence spending

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki thanked US president Donald Trump for his words, on Friday, which praised Poland for paying even more for defence spending than it was obliged to. President Trump stressed that this is valued by the US.

During Friday’s conference, Trump called on Germany to spend at least 2 percent of its GDP on its own defence each year. He said that many countries, when looking at them as one bloc, will really benefit from it. He noted once everybody pays as much as they should, this will bring enormous gain to NATO.

In this context he said that some countries like Poland are wonderful since they pay even more than they are expected, or that they must, because they see that the US is bearing the burden of costs. He said maybe Poland feels that is unjust, and the US really appreciates that.

Prime Minister Morawiecki wrote on his Twitter account that Poland takes seriously its obligation to ensure the security of its citizens, as well as its obligation to NATO. He added that Poland is already spending 2 percent of GDP on national defence and, by 2030, will reach a spending level of 2.5 percent of GDP. He said this was valued by Poland's allies.
