The Polish PM condemned the attack on the mayor of Gdansk (northern Poland) during the 27th finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP) in the Baltic city of Gdańsk on Sunday evening.

Paweł Adamowicz was attacked by a man while he was on stage. He was immediately taken to hospital. His condition is serious.

PM Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter that the attack on the Gdańsk mayor is an act which deserves the highest condemnation. He added that he had obliged the interior minister to keep him informed about the incident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mayor Adamowicz," he wrote.

President Andrzej Duda stressed in his tweet that he was praying for Adamowicz's full recovery and that his thoughts were with the Gdańsk mayor and his relatives.
