Payment app BLIK goes global after being picked up by Adyen
Online payment system BLIK has been added to the global Dutch payment provider Adyen.
The inclusion means that users of Spotify, eBay and Uber around the world will be able to add BLIK as a payment method.
Jakub Czerwiński, Adyen Vice President Sales CEE, said: “We’re excited to partner with BLIK to create secure and seamless payment flows that provides merchants and shoppers with an easy way to make one-click and recurring payments.
“Merchants can fully host and control the BLIK checkout process without any redirects, which is a unique standard in the industry.”
Thanks to the partnership Polish users who already have access to BLIK will be able to complete their payments with it while shopping with the biggest companies in the world.
BLIK was launched five years ago following agreement between six competing banks: Alior Bank, Bank Millennium, ING Bank Śląski, mBank, PKO BP and Santander Bank.
It was based on the IKO application operated by PKO Bank Polski and fully developed in Poland becoming one standard contactless method of mobile payment available to 95 percent of online banking users.
Monika Król, Vice President of the Management Board of Polish Payment Standard, BLIK operator, said: ”Global payment platform providers want to be sure that their customers will be able to use their favourite payment method.
“This is another important moment in BLIK’s development.
“We are convinced that this trend will continue, thanks to which more and more online stores in the world will have BLIK in their offer.
“The next step in our cooperation with Adyen is service integration, which will be available in March 2020. After that, Adyen customers will be able to implement BLIK on their platforms.”
Since launching, BLIK users have made 353 million transactions worth 47 billion zlotys. 220 million of them were made in 2019.
BLIK is also the most popular method of paying over the internet in Poland with the last quarter of 2019 seeing on average users carrying out 766,000 BLIK transactions a day, which is 8 per second.
The record for a single day was 1.3 million transactions.
