More than 20 cars were destroyed in a fire in an underground garage in Warsaw early on Friday morning. No injuries were reported, however, over 150 people had to be evacuated.

Capt. Michal Konopka, a Warsaw fire department spokesman, told PAP that over 20 cars were destroyed and many were damaged by smoke. "Plaster fell from the ceiling, as the temperature in the garage was very high," he said.

Although the fire had been put out by Friday morning, firefighters were still on the scene. Konopka said that the garage must still be aired out and secured, as only then can the technical condition of the structure be assessed by building inspectors.

The fire broke out in an underground garage in a residential complex at 181 Gorczewska St. Nearly 150 people were evacuated from one of the buildings.

"The city has provided buses for the evacuated residents," added Konopka.
