Mgr Patrick Chauvet, Bishop of the fire-ravaged Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, will be guest of honour at a Friday fundraising concert in aid of its reconstruction in the St. Stanislaus Kostka Archcathedral Basilica in Łódź, central Poland.

The concert will take place on the eve of the 48th anniversary of a similar fire in the Łodź sanctuary.

On the programme will be "Ludźmierz Vespers," an oratory by Polish composer Jan Kanty Pawluśkiewicz. Also planned is a collection for reconstruction work on Notre Dame cathedral, severely damaged by a fire in mid-April.

Łódź Archbishop Grzegorz Ryś, who initiated the concert, said he very much wanted Chauvet to attend the event as a direct witness of the Notre Dame fire. Ryś added that the date of the concert was not coincidental as it fell on the eve of the 48th anniversary of a 1971 fire in the Łódź basilica which destroyed its roof and damaged its dome.
