No sign of threat for Poland over Middle East situation – president

President Andrzej Duda said on Sunday that Poland is monitoring the situation in the Middle East and there are no signals that there is any threat for Poland or Poles.

Duda told a public TV broadcaster TVP Info that consultations with experts and former Polish ambassadors showed "the clear view that Poland does not take part in this event."

"Poles and Poland have a good relationship in Iran. We did not take part in it in any way and there are no signals that there would be any threat to Poland or Poles resulting from this event" He added that the situation in the Middle East "may escalate in different directions.," he said.

The president also said that Polish soldiers "do not perform any military mission» in Iraq.

"This is not a combat mission, it's a training mission of a stabilising nature, carried out for peaceful purposes," he said, adding that the training of the Iraqi forces by Polish soldiers had been suspended.
