Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak tweeted on Wednesday that there were no Polish military casualties in the attack on US air bases in Iraq, Al Asad and Irbil.

"We are in constant contact with the commander of the Polish Military Contingent in Iraq," Blaszczak wrote on Twitter.

Iran has carried out ballistic missile attacks on air bases housing US forces in Iraq, launching over a dozen missiles, Arabic al-Mayadeen television said on Wednesday.

On Friday, Iranian Major-General Qassem Soleimani, Iran's top security and intelligence commander, was killed in a drone strike at Baghdad International Airport. American officials said the attack was authorised by President Donald Trump.

The American air base Al Asad is used by US troops as part of the International Coalition combating Islamic State. It is also manned by around a hundred military personnel from Poland.
