An amendment to environmental laws signed by President Andrzej Duda on Tuesday bans imports of pollutive heating furnaces and obliges households to connect to the national heating system.

The main aim of the new regulation is to eliminate non-ecological heating furnaces from the market. Most are imported from other EU countries, Turkey and the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) states.

The new law is compatible with EU regulations, which admit import, export and transit restrictions on public safety and health/life protection grounds.

According to Poland's Entrepreneurship and Technology Ministry around 200-250 thousand solid-fuel heating furnaces are imported to Poland every year.
