Close to 1,700 foreign doctors, including around 800 from Ukraine, have started working in Poland, benefiting from simplified procedures, the health minister has said.

Adam Niedzielski told a press conference on Friday that after the outbreak of Russia's war on Ukraine Poland intensified work on simplified employment procedures for foreign medical staff and that recently these procedures were made even simpler for Ukraine war refugees.

"According to the latest data, when the new system started to be in place, we had almost 1,700 doctors from outside Poland... of whom 800 are from Ukraine," he said.

Poland has taken in nearly 3.19 million refugees fleeing Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Polish Border Guard agency reported on Friday.
