Nato Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has assured Poland of the alliance’s commitment to defend Polish territory.

Stoltenberg made the pledge during an online address to the National Assembly, both houses of the Polish parliament, on Friday.

The allies are united within Nato, the Atlantic Alliance will protect Poland and defend every inch of the alliance's territory, in line with the one for all and all for one principle, Stoltenberg said.

According to the Nato chief, the alliance's responsibility is to ensure that the conflict does not spread beyond Ukraine as it would be even more dangerous, destructive and deadly.

Therefore, he said, Nato allies have doubled their military presence in Poland and on the alliance's eastern flank in recent weeks. He added that thousands of Nato soldiers as well as an increased number of Nato ships and jets are in the region.

Stoltenberg said that "evil" was already losing because of the build-up of Nato forces on Russia's borders.

Putin would like to divide Europe and the United States, said Stoltenberg, but he can see they are more united than ever.

And, as Putin wants to take European states hostage with oil and gas, he pushes them towards diversification, Stoltenberg said.
