National day of mourning declared for 12 Poles killed in mining blast

Sunday will be a day of national mourning in Poland after a Thursday methane explosion took the lives of 13 miners, including 12 Poles, at a mine in Karvina, Czech Republic, the Polish President's Office announced on Friday.

During the period of mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast on public buildings and be trimmed with black ribbon. Entertainment events, mass gatherings, concerts and sporting events will be cancelled.
