Mum gives birth to massive 7kg baby girl
A woman has given birth to one of the largest babies born in Poland, with her daughter weighing in at close to a massive 7 kilograms.
Named Maja, the larger-than-average child was born in a hospital in the southern town of Piekary Śląskie on August 3, and doctors say she is in good health despite her size and being born via a caesarean section.
At birth she weighed 6,860 grams.
“We expected the baby to be big, but not this big,” said Dariusz Piecha, head of the hospital’s gynecology and obstetrics department.
“Babies are rarely this size when born. She is, according to my knowledge, one of the largest babies born in Poland.
“The baby needs more milk because the mother is unable to breastfeed her,” he continued. “The girl needs to be fed, and is drinking as much as a four-month-old baby.”
The doctor added that despite the size of her child the mother is in good health, although she needs to recover from the caesarean procedure.
Medical officials at the hospital also said that Maja’s mother did not suffer from diabetes, which is a common cause of large babies.
