Poland's defence minister Mariusz Blaszczak on Wednesday confirmed the purchase of 288 K238 Chunmoo missile batteries from South Korea.

The first 18 batteries are to arrive in Poland next year.

The self-propelled batteries have a range of 80-290 km. They will be mounted on Polish-produced Jelcz chassis.

The deal foresees the subcontracting of auxiliary elements to the batteries with Polish manufacturers.

Blaszczak also said that the first 24 Korean-purchased K9 howitzers and ten K2 tanks will be delivered to Poland soon. He added that the guns and tanks will reinforce the eastern flank of Nato.

Poland purchased 672 howitzers and 1,000 tanks from South Korea under a July 27 contract.
