"Loving Vincent" nominated for animated feature Oscar

"Loving Vincent", a Polish-British production directed by Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman, is among the nominees for best animated feature film announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday

Other Oscar nominees for best animated feature film include "The Boss Baby", "The Breadwinner", "Coco" and "Ferdinand."

Loving Vincent, the world's first fully painted feature film, tells the story of the life and mysterious death of the painter Vincent van Gogh through moving images of his masterpieces.

Featuring over 120 of Van Gogh’s greatest paintings, the plot, drawn from the 800 letters written by the painter himself, leads to the significant people and events of his time.

A team of 125 artists from 15 countries painted 65,000 paintings, using the same technique as Van Gogh.

"Loving Vincent" has won the prestigious 2017 European Animated Feature Film Award, the festival's audience award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and the award for Best Animation at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
