The 11th World Urban Forum (WUF) will be held in 2022 in the southern Polish city of Katowice, for the first time in Central Europe, Minister of Funds and Regional Policy Malgorzata Jarosinska-Jedynak has said.

The event will be organised by the funds ministry jointly with the city of Katowice.

The organisation of the event was handed over to Poland this morning during the closing ceremony of the 10th World Urban Forum held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

"Katowice is a unique Polish city, where industrial history and post-industrial architecture are combined with aspirations to be a cultural and business center," Jarosinska-Jedynak said, adding that the organisers want to "tell the history of Katowice to the world" and talk about the transformation the city has gone through in the last decades.

The World Urban Forum (WUF) is the world's premier conference on urban policy, organised and convened by UN-Habitat, the United Nations agency for urbanisation and urban settlements. The event takes place every 2 years.
