A 22-year old from a small village near the Tatra Mountains will become the first Pole to play for the Harlem Globetrotters, the basketball team famed around the world for their trick shots and shows.

Paweł ‘Kid’ Kidoń from Zubrzyca Dolna, which lies to the west of Nowy Targ, will wear the number 48 shirt for the team with his nickname ‘Dazzle’ on it.

“I made it!!” Kidoń wrote on social media after getting the news. “I have become the first Pole in history to be in the Harlem Globetrotters.

“I had always dreamed about wearing a Globetrotter shirt one day, and today I did it. I made history.”

Kidoń’s invitation to join the team came after he dazzled them with his skills when they were performing in Katowice.

A video posted on Youtube in March shows Kidoń leaving a Globetrotter slightly dumbstruck as he shows off some of his moves. As he finishes another Globetrotter, off camera, can be heard urging him to “keep going.”

“I want to thank my loved ones for all their support, in particular my girlfriend who has always supported me in the journey of my dreams,” the jubilant Kidoń added.

It is not known, however, when he will make his debut for the Globetrotters, who are on a European tour at the moment.

He has been crowned Polish freestyle champion three times and in 2016 became world champion.

His calling card is a trick called a “webster” which involves doing a forward summersault in the air without dropping a ball spinning on his index finger.
