Joanna Kulig takes female lead alongside Andre Holland in major new Netflix series
Joanna Kulig will star in “The Eddy”, a forthcoming musical drama television series on Netflix.
Set in a jazz club in Paris, “The Eddy” will see Kulig take the female lead opposite American actor Andre Holland who plays the club’s owner.
Echoing “Cold War”, Kulig plays a singer called Maja who is struggling with a drinking problem.
Maja is in an on-and-off relationship with Holland’s character, a former jazz pianist who left New York for Paris.
The series will be directed by French-American director Damien Chazelle, known for musical film “La La Land”, for which he won the Oscar for Best Director.
It will be shot in France, with dialogue in French, English and Arabic. Eight episodes are planned. Produced by Endeavor Content, it will be available worldwide on Netflix.
Born in Krynica in 1982, Kulig gained international fame with her starring role in Paweł Pawlikowski’s film “Cold War” (2018), for which she received the Best Actress Award at the 31st European Film Awards.
Set in Poland and France from the late 1940s to the 1960s, “Cold War” centres on the love story between two musicians, Wiktor (Polish actor Tomasz Kot) and Zula, played by Kulig. Her role involved dancing and singing, from Polish folk songs to sultry jazz.
Since her success in “Cold War”, the 36-year-old has appeared in Polish film “The Clergy” (2018) and American action drama web television series “Hanna”, which is being shown on Amazon Video, among other productions.
In December last year she signed up with major Hollywood talent agents, Creative Artist Agency alongside A-listers such as Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and Sharon Stone.
In February, she gave birth to her first child, a boy called Janek, in Los Angeles, positioning her well to continue her international acting career.
