Italian president approves Anders as Poland's ambassador to Italy

President of Italy Sergio Matarella has accepted the appointment of Anna Maria Anders as Poland's ambassador to Italy, the country's Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

Anders, a senator and the government commissioner for international dialogue, is the daughter of the commander of the WWII Polish II Corps General Władysław Anders.

The Polish II Corps took part in the 1944 Battle of Monte Cassino which opened for allied forces the road to Rome. 923 Polish soldiers died in the battle considered one of the fiercest of World War Two.
