The matter of defective masks from China will be investigated by the Chinese government and the producers of the masks, said Deputy Minister of Health Janusz Cieszynski at a press conference on Friday.

Cieszynski said that he had spoken with the Chinese ambassador to Poland on Thursday, who expressed his readiness to support the Polish government in clarifying doubts regarding the quality of the protective masks which reached the country.

"I'm confident that we will have good cooperation. We received a declaration of readiness to support the Polish government and all other institutions that bought this equipment abroad. I am convinced that this will help us to clear up this matter," said the deputy minister.

Last week, the Gazeta Wyborcza daily wrote that the Ministry of Health, in spending over PLN 5 million (EUR 1.1 million) for the protective masks, overpaid for them and did not check their quality. The health minister then confirmed that the masks which the newspaper had written about did not meet the relevant standards and that, therefore, an exchange for goods of proper quality was requested. He also said that notification had been submitted to the prosecutor's office regarding this case.
